Bangladeshi All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan reaches the peak of his legendary T20 career with 500 dismissals, becoming the fifth bowler to achieve this record-breaking milestone. The left-arm spinner who plays for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 chipped in with a deadly 3 for 11 in three tight overs, disrupting St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who lost the match by 7 wickets. With this invigorating victory, the Falcons have revamped their position in the points table, surging to the top with three wins and two losses.
Shakib fetched Pakistani batter Mohammad Rizwan’s wicket as he caught and bowled him. Walking out to the pavilion, it was a turning point for the Falcons as the end of his innings at 30 off 26 brought them back to the game. Waiting no longer, he trapped Kyle Mayers and Navian Bidaisee quite early, and the Patriots eventually surrendered at 133 for 9 in 20 overs. Brimming with confidence, Shakib added 25 runs in 18 balls, fuelling Falcons to chase the target, but stagnation came in the way, winning the match with just two balls remaining to play.
Player of the Match, Shakib, expressed his thoughts after getting 500 T20 wickets, emphasising a sense of satisfaction when dismissals go in favour of the team. “Important stage of the tournament coming up, hopefully we can keep the momentum going”, Shakib said during the post-match presentation. After playing 5 matches, Shakib has collected four wickets, indicating he will make up for it in the next few matches after a memorable day settling into his T20 career.
The Falcons are done with the home matches, completing them with a victory, shrugging off a brutal defeat in the last match. As the more competitive phase is set to begin soon, this expedition is going to be decisive with stellar spinners, including Shakib, who is bringing accuracy, consistency and depth in his bowling attack.
