Wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan are now finally a part of the BCCI Central Contract for the 2023-24 season. Both Jurel and Sarfaraz made their India debut in the third Test against England in Rajkot on 15th February. When the BCCI announced the Annual Player retainership in the 2023-24 Central Contract on 28th February, both names were missing from the list as Sarfaraz and Jurel had played only two Test matches for India till then.
However, they both needed to play in the fifth and the final Test against England in Dharamsala. And as expected, Sarfaraz and Jurel were a part of the playing XI in the final making them both eligible for the BCCI Central Contract. Now, both of them have been inducted into the Grade C category (with an annual salary of 1 Crore) of the 2023-24 BCCI Central Contract list.
After making his name in the domestic cricket for Mumbai, Sarfaraz Khan finally got his maiden Test call during the recently ended India-England series. Coming up with big expectations, Sarfaraz stepped up on all of them by scoring half-centuries in both innings of his debut Test in Rajkot. On the other hand, Dhruv Jurel, who also made a debut in the same match, played a crucial 46-run knock in the first innings. However, Jurel showed his caliber in the fourth Test in Ranchi when he scored 90 runs in the first and helped India to post 307, just 46 runs behind England’s first innings total, after hosts lost early wickets and were on the verge of trailing by a big margin. He also added crucial 39 runs in the second innings in an unbeaten 72-run partnership with Shubman Gill as India won by 5 wickets and took unassailable lead in the series.
