Sam Billings rewrites history to become the third-most successful T20 captain after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma
Oval Invincibles were brilliant throughout the season. They finished the group stage at the top with six wins in 8 group matches. That helped them to qualify for the final directly. Trent Rockets made it to the final after the Eliminator against Northern Supercharges was washed out. Because of the better standing, the Rockets made it to the final.
But the Invincibles were too good for them in both departments and thrashed them to win their third title. That added the fifth title for Sam Billings as a T20 captain overall. With this, he became the third-most successful captain even in T20 cricket. It was the fifth title for Billings overall.
He has won three consecutive titles with Oval Invincibles. He also led Dubai Capitals to success during the ILT20 2025. His first title as captain was in 2021 when he led the Kent Spitfires to glory. Ahead of Billings there are only two captains: MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.
Rohit has won five IPL titles overall as captain of Mumbai Indians. He also won two Champions League titles as MI captain. Apart from that, he led India to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Overall, he has 8 titles as T20 captain. At the top, MS Dhoni has nine titles.
Dhoni has five IPL championships as the captain of Chennai Super Kings. He has also led CSK to win two Champions League titles. Then, he won his first T20 title as captain during the T20 World Cup 2007. He has also won the T20 Asia Cup 2016.
