Two finalists India and South Africa reached the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after defeating their respective opponents in the semi final games. Where India fights against defending champion England. Protease thrashed Afghanistan in the first semi final match in Trinidad & Tobago.
Now both strong and undefeated contenders fight with each other in Bridgetown, Barbados. However, the match has been constantly threatened by inclement weather and thunderstorms.
According to the weather report, the sky of Bridgetown will be mostly cloudy and humid in the morning. Scattered rain and thunderstorms will hover all day long.
To protect the highly anticipated match, ICC has allocated a reserve day if the South Africa-India T20 World Cup final is washed out. The Reserve Day for the Final for SA vs IND is set to be held on Sunday, 30th June. But there are some rain rules for the SA vs IND final T20 World Cup match.
So how does Reserve Day work, how will it decide whether to use it or not and when will it be?
First, if the match is interrupted by the rain, ICC has allocated an extra 190 minutes to complete the game. If required, the game will be shortened with a minimum of 10 overs for each side of the team to decide the final result fair and square.
However, if it is impossible to finish off the game, then it will continue on the next day, Sunday, 30th June. The game will start from where it left off to finish ASAP. Overs can be reduced to get the result.
But what if Reserve Day for the IND vs SA was also washed out by the rain?
In this case, a Super Over will take place to decide the ultimate champion. If Super Over cannot be placed or interrupted then the match will be abandoned and get no result. Both India and South Africa will be announced as joint winners of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Both teams are unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup yet their journey was not simple and obstacle free. Looks like overbearing their fears are not just enough for India and South Africa, they have to face disastrous weather in order to clinch the World Cup Trophy.
