India’s ODI top-order batters, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, are set to get active for the fitness test during the last few days of August. According to a report, both seasoned cricketers will engage in the yo-yo test at the Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As India will fly to Australia, this development is intended with a vision for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Kangaroos in October.
KL Rahul continues to play across formats, but Rohit Sharma is now active only in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a captain, winning two ICC events back to back – the 2024 T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy 2025- surged Rohit’s reputation in international cricket. His last showdown was seen with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025, where he performed brilliantly, amassing 418 runs with four fifties at a strike rate of 149.28.
Among active senior players, only Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have remained available for the ODIs. There is no update about Kohli’s availability for the fitness test. They will gear up for the next 50-over series against Australia, with the opening match starting on October 19.
What is Yo-Yo Test?
The yo-yo test is designed to evaluate an athlete’s potential to deliver results during high-energy episodes of exercise with a short-term recovery phase. The test performers run from side to side between two points at a distance of 20 meters, hearing a string of audio sounds that control the motion for every interval. The process extends at higher speeds till the time the athlete is unable to keep up with the required condition. The last score measures the speed and quantity of intervals finished, giving clarity about the participant’s stamina and physical state.
