The ICC has officially announced former India captain Rohit Sharma as the Brand Ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, giving the legendary opener a prestigious new responsibility ahead of the mega tournament. The announcement was made during a special event in Mumbai where the complete tournament schedule was also revealed.
Rohit, who led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title and ended the nation’s long ICC trophy drought, said he was “honoured and excited” to take up this new role. His presence in the global campaign adds star power to the event, especially in a tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 8 March 2026.
India’s Road to T20 World Cup 2026
India, the defending champions, have been placed in Group A alongside:
- India
- Pakistan
- USA
- Netherlands
- Namibia
The Men in Blue will begin their campaign on 7 February in Mumbai against the USA.
India’s Full Group Stage Schedule
- 7 Feb – India vs USA (Mumbai)
- 12 Feb – India vs Namibia (Delhi)
- 15 Feb – India vs Pakistan (Colombo)
- 18 Feb – India vs Netherlands (Ahmedabad)
The India-Pakistan clash on 15 February in Colombo is expected to be the highlight of the group stage. Due to an ICC-BCCI-PCB agreement, India and Pakistan will play each other at neutral venues until 2027.

Tournament Venues and Format
The 2026 T20 World Cup will feature 20 teams divided into four groups. India will host matches in five cities:
- Mumbai
- Delhi
- Chennai
- Kolkata
- Ahmedabad
Sri Lanka will host matches in:
- Colombo (2 venues)
- Kandy
The tournament begins with three matches on opening day, including Pakistan vs Netherlands. Top two teams from each group will move to the Super Eight, followed by semifinals and the final.
Special Rules for Semifinal and Final Venues
Due to geopolitical arrangements:
- If Pakistan reaches the semifinal, their knockout match will be played in Colombo.
- If Pakistan does not qualify, the first semifinal shifts to Kolkata.
- The final will be held in Ahmedabad, unless Pakistan plays — in that case, it will move to Colombo.
With Rohit Sharma stepping in as the face of the tournament, and India preparing to defend their crown on home soil, the buzz around the 2026 T20 World Cup has intensified.
