Yash Dayal, who turned out to be a last-minute hero in the match against CSK, was severely trolled last year for his 5 crore pick by the RCB. Even RCB captain Faf du Plessis dedicated his Player of the Match award to Dayal and lauded him for his final over magic, which helped the team to get a place in the playoff.
Post winning the match, Dayal opened up on the trolling he faced after being picked up by the RCB for Rs 5 crore. He said,
“When I was picked in RCB. I faced a lot of criticism and questioning in my place in the team. My mindset was only, I didn’t want to prove people wrong, I just had to prove myself”.
RCB told me from day 1 that I’m an important player for them. They’ve backed me to the core, the results you’re seeing now are due to their backing and trust in me.
There was nervousness after what happened to me last time [against KKR in 2023],” Dayal said after the game.
“When I got hit off that first ball, I subconsciously went back to that place. But I have done well in the past, I have done well after that, so all that was running through my mind was to deliver a good ball. I didn’t want to look at the scoreboard or the result. I just wanted to bowl well. I was confident with my execution.”

he said. “Suddenly DK [Dinesh Karthik] bhaiya and Faf talked to each other, and it was decided that Lockie [Ferguson] bowls the 19th and me the last. I was fine with anything.

Dayal’s’ proud father also commented on his son’s achievement. Before the last over of the game, Father Chandarpal couldn’t resist turning on the television, so he did witness his son’s moment of glory in real time. The Dayal’s briefly regretted disobeying the family norm, though. M S Dhoni, the final action hero of CSK, smashed a six that left the stadium off Yash’s opening ball.

“I just folded my hands and started praying. ‘Aaj mere bachhe ka saath dena bhagwaan, fir se wo nahi hona chahiye (God, please support my son today. It should not happen again). It felt good the way he held his nerve after the first ball. I enjoyed the winning moment.”
Chandarpal also mentioned family members and friends mocked his son. This was when Rinku Singh hit five sixes in an over.
“In one of the WhatsApp groups, a person I know shared a meme, mocking Yash for conceding five sixes and I still remember what he wrote with the picture ‘Prayagraj Express ki kahaani shuru hone se pehle hi khatam ho gayi (The story of Prayagraj Express got over before it even began),” he said.
