Swapnil Singh, an all-around player currently playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), made an immediate impression upon entering the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the second half. In a recent interview, he got emotional while talking about his “emotional” path in cricket, which had many highs and lows, as well as his friendship with star batsman Virat Kohli.
He was essential to the team’s incredible turnaround, which resulted in back-to-back victories and an IPL playoff berth. From facing Virat Kohli at the U-19 World Cup to eventually being able to play for RCB in the IPL, Swapnil has had to overcome many obstacles to reach his goals.

The star spinner, who was roommates with Virat Kohli when he made his cricket debut for Baroda at the age of 14, reminisced about his journey and broke down in tears. The 33-year-old sobbed as he remembered his difficult days.
He said,
“The day of the IPL auction I was travelling to Dharamsala for a game. It was around 7-8 pm after I landed. Nothing had happened by then, and the last rounds were on. When I missed out at first, I thought that’s it. Frankly, I thought it was all over.”
“I thought I would play out the ongoing season, and if needed, I would end my career after playing the next season because I did not want to keep playing all my life.”
“There are other things to do well in life as well. I was very disappointed,”
said Swapnil, who made his debut in 2006 and had even shared the dressing room with RCB teammate Virat Kohli at one point.
“When I was playing for Punjab, I made my debut against Mahi bhai’s team. Our captain was Maxwell. I caught and bowled and took just one wicket, that of Mahi bhai, MS Dhoni. I was Baroda’s top run scorer and a member of the Dileep Trophy team”, he said.
“I have one wicket in the IPL and neither a four nor a six. Nevertheless, I would like to hit a four or a six and claim a wicket. I was certain that our captain would give me six balls if they put me in a game. Finally, I struck a four and a six, and although I didn’t bowl six balls, I did bowl seven.”
In the initial stage of the IPL 2024 season, RCB suffered back-to-back losses. In a total of six matches, Swapnil played a crucial role with his few batting appearances and low economy rate. In addition to taking six wickets at an average of 19.00 and an economy rate of 8.76, with the best statistics of 2/28, he has amassed 28 runs at a strike rate of 164.70 throughout four innings.
