Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have wasted no time in getting ready for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Fresh from finally lifting their maiden IPL trophy in 2025, the franchise has already regrouped its think tank to prepare for Mission IPL 2026.
A recent post on RCB social media showed head coach Andy Flower, Director of Cricket Mo Bobat, Chairman Prathmesh Mishra, and Vice President Rajesh V Menon together with the caption: “Reset. Refocus. Restart.” The photo is believed to have been taken in London, where Bobat is also associated with the Hundred’s London Spirit franchise.

Virat Kohli Still at the Centre
Though not seen in the picture, Virat Kohli role in the planning cannot be ruled out. The star batter, who lives in London with his wife Anushka Sharma, was recently spotted there. Kohli has been retained by RCB for ₹21 crore till 2027 and remains the face of the franchise.
He was central to RCB historic title win last season, scoring 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71. He hit eight half-centuries, including a vital 43 off 35 balls in the final against Punjab Kings, which helped RCB post 190. Their bowlers then defended the total to seal a memorable six-run victory.
Over his IPL career, Kohli has amassed 8,661 runs in 267 games, the highest in tournament history. His consistency and leadership continue to make him the heartbeat of the team.
A Historic Title and a Painful Tragedy
RCB triumph in 2025 was historic – it ended an 18-year wait for the trophy. The team had earlier reached finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016, but fell short each time. Under new captain Rajat Patidar, they finally crossed the line, beating Punjab Kings twice in the playoffs to lift the cup in Ahmedabad.
But celebrations were overshadowed by tragedy. A stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the victory festivities led to several deaths and injuries. As a result, the iconic ground has been declared unfit to host IPL matches for now. RCB will have to look for a new home venue for 2026 – a huge change both emotionally and logistically.
“This is a reset moment for us,” said Mo Bobat. “We want to keep winning, but we also want to be responsible – to our fans, to the families affected, and to the sport itself.”
“RCB Cares” and Safety First
In response, the franchise has launched “RCB Cares”, a program aimed at supporting families affected by the tragedy and ensuring stronger safety protocols in the future. Investigations are ongoing, and while RCB has not faced an IPL ban, the franchise is under scrutiny to ensure such incidents are never repeated.
Auction Plans for 2026
On the cricketing front, RCB focus is the upcoming mini auction. The management is expected to release a few players to create room in their budget while holding on to key performers. They are also likely to target new signings to strengthen balance. One name already in the spotlight is Cameron Green, who could be one of the hottest buys if available.
For RCB, the 2026 season will test more than just their cricket skills. They must defend their crown while also winning back complete trust from fans. A new home ground, fresh auction plans, and a pledge to prioritize safety will shape their journey.
The photo from London was just the beginning. The real work – building a squad, finding a new base, and standing by their supporters – is already underway.
RCB’s mission is clear: defend the title, and do it with responsibility.
