Former England captain, Michael Vaughan, has lavished praise on the Pakistan team, stating they are better than India ahead of the much-awaited 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. The showpiece event is scheduled to begin on June 2 and will be co-hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies.
Vaughan stated that he would be surprised if India would pose a challenge to Pakistan in the upcoming tournament. He added that under Babar Azam‘s captaincy, Pakistan would be phenomenal in T20 World Cups. The crucial match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is scheduled to contest on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
“Pakistan team is looking good, and they’re better than India. Even if India gives them competition I will be shocked, forget about victory against Pakistan. Pakistan team in T20 World Cups under Babar Azam Captaincy is something else,” the 49-year-old told Star Sports.
India, led by Rohit Sharma, will kickstart their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Canada in New York. Pakistan, on the other hand, will lock horns against the USA in their first game at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas on the next day.
The upcoming tournament is the ninth edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup, a biennial T20I event. England are the defending champions winning the title in the previous edition defeating Pakistan in the final.
The tournament will feature a record 20 teams, up from 16 teams at the last edition in 2022. All the teams are divided into four groups of five each for the first stage of the marquee event. The top two teams from each group will play in the Super 8 stage, where they will compete to book their berth in the knockout stage.
Over the course of nearly one month, there will be a total of 55 games played, including the semi-finals and the final. The final of the game will be contested on June 29 in Barbados.
