The most recent titleholder, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially confirmed via a tweet about the appointment of a brand new assistant coach who is a renowned Caribbean pacer, having served the West Indies Cricket team from 1995 to 1999.Â
A former coach of several T20 franchises, Gibson is a versatile T20 coach, besides being a remarkable player in ODIs and Tests, with more than 650 wickets in his first first-class career. He superheaded the England national cricket team on two distinct time periods, from 2007 to 2010 and 2015 to 2017. His stint as a head coach during 2010-14 with the West Indies team brought laurels for the team, winning their inaugural World T20 tournament held in Sri Lanka in 2012. Next to the line, he also guided South Africa as a head coach during 2017-19.
As per the tweet, Gibson will be joining the KKR campaign, possessing the likes of Dwayne Bravo as the mentor, Carl Crowe as spin-bowling coach, Chandrakant Pandit as head coach, and others. As IPL 2025 is around the corner, KKR are expected to reap the benefits of Ottis Gibson’s diverse experience to solidify the bowling unit.
