Cricket a sport of gentlemen is a prestigious and well renowned sport across the globe with 104 countries as members of the International Cricket Council. ICC has announced its 13th ODI world cup this 2023 scheduled to begin on October 5 2023, which is taking place in India with 10 teams competing against each other for the ICC world cup. In amid to this news the BCCI has taken a very great initiative in launching the “The Golden ticket to Indian Icons” program.
What is a Golden Ticet?
A Golden ticket is a program initiated by the BCCI to honor the personalities across the globe that have uplifted India’s stature globally with their work and crafts across the world in order to honor their deeds for the nation. A golden ticket allows the holder to see any cricket world cup live from the stadium.
The BCCI honored Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan with a Golden ticket on September 5th then Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on September 8th and later on South Indian Cinema superstar Rajnikanth on September 19
This ticket comes with a set of its own perks. The holder of this ticket is a guest of BCCI at the world cup and is treated accordingly so the holder gets a VIP treatment. The holder has access to all the 48 matches from ground zero now it won’t be possible for them to see all the matches but the ticket allows them to see whichever one they want. BCCI came up with the Golden ticket program to promote and publicize the world cup. It has been more than a decade since India hosted an ODI world cup and the BCCI was ready to promote through any means necessary.
Gavaskar responds to the initiative
Indian Cricket Veteran Sunil Gavaskar praised the BCCI for initiating the Golden ticket program by writing “The decision by BCCI secretary Jay Shah to honour persons who have done yeoman service in their respective fields is a terrific one. As of writing, the one and only Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar have been given a golden ticket to witness the World Cup matches,” in his column for Sportstar.
Gavaskar also suggested that the Golden ticket should also be given to the two great captains of the Indian team because of whom India was responsible for getting the world cup in 1983 and 2011 namely Kapil Dev and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Along with them the ticket should also be given to the ISRO chief S. Somnath and some sports personalities like Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, Table tennis maestro Sharath Komal and Table Tennis star Rohan Bopanna.
ICC released their official World cup anthem “Dil Jashn Bole” featuring Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, Youtubers Gaurav Taneja, BeYou Nik Dhanashree Verma and more renowned personalities.
Indian fans are amazed by this initiative of BCCI for giving the Golden ticket. While many fans appreciate the ticket being given to movie and sports personalities some fans show their disappointment on twitter saying the tickets should also be given to the real life ‘JAWANS’ of the Indian Army.
The world cup is all set to begin on 5th October between England and New Zealand and the finals are set to be played on November 19th.
