Former Indian skipper and Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been making headlines yet again. This time with a cryptic Facebook post hinting at a ‘new role’ ahead of the new season. He expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and kept the fans guessing about what he could refer to.
All the Indian fans are awaiting the return of MS Dhoni in the colours of the Chennai Super Kings. Last time he donned the jersey, CSK became the IPL champion for a record-equalling fifth time. While there were speculations of him getting retired in IPL 2023, he announced after CSK’s victory in the final that he will continue to play for the franchise due to the love that the fans have showered.
After the last season, MS underwent knee surgery. Recently, videos of him training on the net went viral, and now the Facebook post is again taking the internet by storm. It might be a new role or even some kind of brand endorsement, as we have seen MS Dhoni drop such hints before. “I can’t wait for the new season and the new ‘role’. Stay tuned!” he wrote.
MS Dhoni has been one of the most important players for the Indian cricket team as well as the franchise. He has been the only Indian captain to win all the ICC trophies for the nation. Dhoni led CSK to five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. He has also led the yellow army to two CLT20 titles in 2010 and 2014. With this, he is not only the most successful captain for the franchise but also for cricket in general.
The right-handed batter has played 250 IPL matches, mostly for CSK, apart from two seasons with the Rising Pune Supergiant from 2016–2017. He scored 5,082 runs at an average of 38.79 over the course of these matches. As wicketkeeper, he has also been phenomenal, with 142 catches and 42 stumpings.
CSK’s pre-season camp has already got underway in the presence of pacer Deepak Chahar, who is eyeing a national comeback through a consistent run for the franchise in the IPL. The first batch of arrivals in the pre-season include players like Simarjeet Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajay Mandal, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Prashant Solanki, and Mukesh Choudhary.
MS Dhoni is yet to join the camp as he was spotted with his wife Sakshi in Jamnagar in the pre-wedding function of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani.
