In a landmark move for Indian cricket, Mithun Manhas, the former Delhi Ranji player, has been appointed as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Manhas, 45, will succeed Roger Binny, whose tenure has come to an end. With this appointment, Manhas becomes the first uncapped cricketer to lead the BCCI, joining the ranks of former international stars like Sourav Ganguly and Binny who have previously held the post.
The decision was finalized during an informal meeting in Dubai ahead of the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 28th September 2025, which will formalize all appointments. Senior board officials and experienced administrators discussed potential candidates for vacant positions and reached consensus before officially notifying the nominees.
Apart from Manhas’s appointment as President, the BCCI has also announced other key office-bearers: Rajeev Shukla continues as Vice President, Raghuram Bhatt becomes Treasurer, Devjit Saikia as Secretary, Prabhatej Bhatia as Joint Secretary, and Arun Singh Dhumal returns as IPL Chairman.
In a significant boost to the selection committees, former players have been given important roles.
Pragnay Ojha, the former off-spinner, joins the Senior Selection Committee, replacing S. Sharath, while R.P. Singh, India’s ex-fast bowler, will also be part of the National Selection Committee, replacing Subrato Banerjee.
Additionally, S. Sharath has been appointed as the new head of the Junior Selection Committee, taking over from V.S. Tilak Naidu.
Mithun Manhas brings a unique blend of domestic cricketing experience and administrative expertise to the table. He had a long career representing Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir in domestic cricket, famously leading Delhi to the 2007–08 Ranji Trophy title with 921 runs at an average of 57.56. Over 157 first-class matches, Manhas amassed 9,714 runs at an average of 45.82, including 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries. He also played in the IPL for teams like Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, and Chennai Super Kings.
Manhas has previously served in administrative roles with the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and represented the state in BCCI meetings. His combination of on-field experience and boardroom knowledge is expected to bring a player-first perspective to Indian cricket administration.
The inclusion of experienced former players like RP Singh and Pragnay Ojha in selection roles is seen as a move to ensure fair and transparent opportunities for young talent, while strengthening the overall decision-making process of the board. Analysts believe this new leadership, led by Manhas, may usher in a new era for Indian cricket, focusing on professionalism, player welfare, and effective governance.
All the newly appointed officials and committee members will formally assume their roles during the AGM on 28th September 2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter in BCCI history. With a blend of administrative experience and cricketing insight, Mithun Manhas and his team are expected to steer Indian cricket toward a more structured and player-focused future.
