Australian cricketer Marnus Labuschagne reminded everyone why he is one of the most versatile players in the country with a stunning performance in the KFC T20 Max 2025 tournament. Playing for Redlands, the Queensland star not only contributed with the bat throughout the competition but produced a match-winning hat-trick in the final to power his team to the title.
In the summit clash against Valleys at Allan Border Field, Brisbane, Redlands posted a competitive total of 191/6. Labuschagne opened the innings with Sam Heazlett, scoring a quick 16 off 10 balls before being dismissed by Jack Wildermuth. The real batting hero of the innings was Jimmy Peirson, who played a breathtaking knock of 102 off just 50 balls*, setting up a daunting chase for Valleys.
Valleys had their moments thanks to Max Bryant 76 off 38 balls, but once his wicket fell, Redlands regained full control.
Labuschagne had already picked up a wicket earlier, dismissing Tighe Morris off the last ball of the 15th over. But it was his dramatic return in the 18th over that turned the game on its head:
- First Wicket: Cameron Boyce was dismissed attempting a big hit, only to find the fielder in the deep.
- Second Wicket: Tom Hallion was deceived by a well-disguised googly and clean bowled.
- Third Wicket: With two in two, Labuschagne struck again to complete his hat-trick, sparking wild celebrations and crushing Valleys’ hopes.
Redlands eventually won the final by 41 runs, clinching the KFC T20 Max title.

Labuschagne’s consistency was on display throughout the competition. His century earlier in the tournament and his all-round show in the final demonstrated his hunger and form heading into a
Labuschagne’s international form has been under scrutiny in recent times. He was dropped from the Australian Test XI earlier this year after a lean patch, having gone 16 Tests and 30 innings without a century.
However, this domestic performance could not have come at a better time. With the Sheffield Shield 2025 season starting on October 4 and the home Ashes series scheduled for November 2025, Labuschagne’s resurgence with both bat and ball might just put him back into contention for national selection.
Labuschagne all-round brilliance is exactly what Australian selectors are looking for ahead of a packed international schedule. If he carries this form into the domestic season, a recall to the T20I squad or even the Test team might be on the cards.
