Bollywood icon, Amitabh Bachchan, said that the most touching moment from the final of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) was Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) CEO and co-owner Kavya Maran getting emotional after their loss. SRH were outplayed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets in the summit clash held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 26, Sunday. Notably, it was the second time the Hyderabad-based franchise emerged as runners-up in IPL.
In a video that surfaced on social media, Kavya could be seen trying to control her tears after KKR clinched their third IPL title. Despite the disappointment, she expressed her satisfaction with the player’s performance throughout the season as well as in the final.

“The most touching moment from the IPL Final was the pretty young lady, Kavya Maran getting emotional after the loss and breaking into tears, turning her face away from the cameras, so as not to display her emotion. I felt bad for her,” Bachchan said.
Speaking about the IPL 2024 final, SRH captain, Pat Cummins, won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the decision backfired as KKR’s most expensive player, Mitchell Starc, dismissed opener Abhishek Sharma in the penultimate delivery of the first over. SRH suffered another blow after Vaibhav Arora sent back Travis Head for a golden duck in the second over.
Starc struck again in the fifth over, removing Rahul Tripathi for nine runs. KKR bowlers continued their dominance, reducing SRH to 90/8 inside 15 overs. Cummins attempted to rescue his side, but Andre Russel dismissed him in the 19th over as KKR, leaving SRH with a below-par score of 113 runs. Cummins top-scored for his side, scoring 24 off 19 deliveries, including two boundaries and one maximum.
During the chase, Venkatesh Iyer scored an unbeaten 52 (26) as KKR successfully chased down the target in 10.3 overs. The win marked KKR’s first IPL title in a decade, under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir. Notably, the Kolkata-based franchise had previously won their last two titles (2012 and 2014) under the captaincy of Gambhir.
