Amid the rising war between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has finally taken a crucial call to suspend IPL 2025 with immediate effect. According to the sources, the rest of the IPL 2025 fixtures have been delayed until further notice, coming out as a logical step. Reportedly, some overseas players are willing to move out of India after the last IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned after a surge of aggressive attacks by Pakistan in several Indian cities located near the border.
The speculations were doing the rounds on the internet about the future of IPL 2025 after a recent PBKS vs DC match on May 8. It led to the cancellation abruptly halfway through the live match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala, citing security concerns and floodlight failure leading to a complete blackout in the stadium. As a big concern, Dharamsala is only 60 kilometers away from the border between India and Pakistan. This major disruption in the history of IPL came for the first time since the first edition in 2008, as the border conflict is escalating between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor.
The next IPL match was scheduled between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. However, in light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the remaining IPL 2025 matches have been put on hold for an indefinite time. It is expected that the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan will only increase further, while several cricket stadiums received bomb threats in the last few days.
Placing national security and the safety of players above cricket is the instance that BCCI has cleared on May 9, after a heated exchange of attacks between both countries since Thursday evening. Overseas cricket boards were also concerned about the safety issues, as multiple cities adjacent to the border are close targets for the Pakistan military, while the Indian Army is doing everything with full force to make every attack futile and respond immediately, involving the deployment of a strong air defence system.
The IPL 2025 was going through a peak stage where franchises were up for finishing the league stage and entering the play-offs. However, the cross-border conflict between India and Pakistan seems to stay for some time, considering the current situation, leading to a vital move to evacuate players and confirm security for everyone, including players, support staff, and the public. Sticking to this unprecedented turnouned in IPL 2025, BCCI will look forward to further instructions from the Indian government to take the next step.
