A team can retain a maximum of six players (four through direct retention and two through Right To Match cards). The IPL 2025 mega auction is likely to be held in November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
A franchise must retain one uncapped player, and MI has yet to clear which will be the uncapped player for them. Meanwhile, if MI retain their Hardik, Rohit, Suryakumar, and Bumrah, they might have to burn INR 61 crore from their purse, which will leave them with INR 59 crore to build their teams for the upcoming season in 2025/

Retaining four Indian-capped stars mean that some big names might have to face the axe. Ishan Kishan, in whom MI invested INR 15.25 crore, is likely to be released. Tilak Varma, Tim David, and Gerald Coetzee are some other big names. However, the franchise might use the RTM card to acquire a couple of them.
