IPL 2025: Rain to spoil sports in the KKR vs RCB clash on Saturday at Eden Gardens
The opening contest of the IPL 2025 will see a face-off between KKR and RCB. It has never happened in the IPL that the first fixture gets washed out. But it seems possible for the IPL 2025. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast for Kolkata on Saturday issued an orange alert.
That means there is a prediction of rain or passing showers, which can be followed by thunderstorms during the scheduled time on Saturday. The forecast predicts continued rain from Friday to Sunday in various parts of Kolkata. The last few days saw rain in Kolkata, which can come as a big headache for the organizers and fans.
The IMD said in a statement, “A trough runs from central Odisha to Vidarbha, and there is wind confluence over east and adjoining central India due to the above trough and anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels. Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on March 20 and 21.”
The toss for the KKR vs RCB clash is scheduled at 7 PM, and the live action starts at 7:30 PM. The forecast suggests 40 to 50 percent chances of rain on Saturday evening. If it rains and the match gets called off, then both teams will get one point each.
However, if the rain stops, then there can be a shortened game. As per the rule, in a rain-hit group game, there is an extra hour provided for at least a five-over contest to get the result. But it should happen before midnight, 12 AM. Notably, the BCCI has also organized the opening ceremony before the match. But if it rains, then it might also get canceled.
