The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will now feature a sign language feed and descriptive commentary for specially-abled fans who are deaf, hard of hearing or visually impaired. The official Television broadcaster of IPL 2024, Star Sports has announced that it will work with India Signing Hands (ISH News) to curate customized commentary for the upcoming tournament.
The sign language will help the specially-abled fans to understand and enjoy ball-by-ball in an IPL match. The ISH specialists on-board will consult the feed to provide ball-by-ball updates using the Indian sign language, as well as the verbal score updates.
“What makes it even more special is its ability to engage with visually impaired fans with commentators describing every moment of the game along with regular verbal score updates,” said the broadcaster,” said the broadcaster as quoted in News18.
The Indian Deaf Cricket Team captain, Virender Singh’ is also excited as he will be able to experience the drama of the IPL due to sharing his video on their social media, Star Sports wrote,

The Founder and CEO of India Signing Hands, Alok Kejriwal said that this new sign language feed, the differently abled people can enjoy the excitement of the IPL and have an immerse experience. He said
“This feed will allow millions of differently abled people like me to experience the thrill and excitement of IPL for the very first time in a language that we understand. I was born Deaf, and I always enjoyed watching cricket with my family while growing up. But the experience just wasn’t the same for me as it was for them, since I could not hear the commentary and so, I would miss a lot of nuances.”
