Team India started the new home Test season on a perfect note, thrashing West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The match ended inside three days, with India completely outplaying the visitors in all departments.
West Indies, who won the toss and opted to bat first, were bundled out for just 162 runs on the opening day. In reply, India piled up a massive 448/5 declared, thanks to centuries from KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja. With a 286-run first-innings lead, India’s bowlers ran riot again as West Indies collapsed for 146 in their second innings.

The win gave India a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series, with the second match scheduled at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10.
India’s batting performance was highlighted by three superb centuries. KL Rahul ended his nine-year wait for a Test hundred on home soil, scoring a patient 100 (190 balls). Young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel grabbed his chance with both hands, smashing his maiden Test century — a composed 125 off 210 balls with 15 fours and 3 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja added to the misery for the West Indies with an unbeaten 104 off 176 balls, striking 6 fours and 5 sixes.

Together, Jurel and Jadeja stitched a 206-run stand for the fifth wicket, putting India in a commanding position.

If the batters set up the game, the bowlers ensured there was no way back for the visitors. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the attack, taking 7 wickets in the match (4 in the first innings and 3 in the second). Jadeja followed up his century with a brilliant 4/58 in the second innings. Kuldeep Yadav (4 wickets across both innings), Jasprit Bumrah (3 wickets), and Washington Sundar (2 wickets) also chipped in.
West Indies failed to put up a fight in either innings. Their top scorers were Justin Greaves (32 in the first innings) and Alick Athanaze (38 in the second).

With this thumping win, India have extended their unbeaten home run and will now head to Delhi full of confidence. The second and final Test starts on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where India will look to seal the series 2-0.
