In an official postponement of India tour of Bangladesh, a six-match white-ball series has been called off. According to the sources, this next assignment containing three T20Is and three ODIs, originally scheduled in 2025 from August 17 to 31, has been reportedly rescheduled to take place in September 2026.
Amid rising withdraw speculations from the bilateral series on Bangladesh soil, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decisively confirmed on July 6 after cautious discussions with the Government of India. Faced with the commercial loss, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also stepped back to revoke and postpone the series after the mutual agreement with the BCCI.
“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams,” The official statement by the BCB cleared the air, while the cricket community and experts are anticipating more angles to look into this foreseen situation apart from workload management concerns.
Why India tour of Bangladesh is rescheduled?
The BCCI didn’t reveal any concrete information for rescheduling. It is perceived that the BCCI want to ensure political stability in Bangladesh so that the law and order comes back to the normal state. In recent times, the rift between both countries spiked due to the political unrest in Bangladesh and affected diplomatic ties. The souring relations fumed since 2024 following abrupt turmoil in Bangladesh with Sheikh Hasina’s government fading away in the country as she ran away from a student-led massive protest catching flames of anger and she sought asylum in India after heading to New Delhi.
The security concerns are also accountable for the rescheduling the six-match white-ball series against Bangladesh from August 2025 to September 2026 after heated exchange with Pakistan in May. The Indian government wants to keep strict instance with the neighbour countries due to which the BCCI officials are in a puzzling state for bilateral fixtures including the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, going to held in the UAE from September 10-27 for which a neutral venue seems a logical choice as this tournament also features Pakistan.
As the next ICC event (T20 World Cup 2026) is coming closer, this last-minute cancellation of an upcoming series is major jolt to the Men in Blue. India will seek to compensate this precedented call-off after landing in Australia for a five-match T20I series in October and November.
