The much-awaited India vs West Indies Test series kicked off in Ahmedabad on October 2, 2025, and it turned into a perfect day for the hosts. Bowling first after West Indies skipper Roston Chase won the toss, India’s pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah completely blew away the Caribbean batting lineup, bundling them out for 162 in just 43.1 overs.
Mohammed Siraj was on fire from the very first over. He dismissed opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul for a duck, followed by John Campbell (8) and Alick Athanaze (12), leaving the visitors reeling. Siraj finished with 4/40, proving once again why he is India’s most dependable strike bowler in red-ball cricket.

On the other end, Jasprit Bumrah backed him perfectly. His control with the new ball and lethal spells later in the innings earned him 3 wickets for 42 runs, including the crucial dismissal of Brandon King (13) and cleaning up the tail.
While the pacers did the heavy lifting, India’s spinners also chipped in. Kuldeep Yadav broke the budding partnership by bowling Shai Hope (26) just before lunch, and Washington Sundar added another scalp to ensure no Caribbean batter could settle.
West Indies Batting Fails Again
For West Indies, it was another forgettable outing in red-ball cricket. Apart from Justin Greaves (32), Shai Hope (26), and captain Roston Chase (24), no batter managed to cross 20. Poor shot selection and inability to counter India’s relentless attack meant they folded quickly.
At one stage, the scoreboard read 42/4, and though Hope and Chase tried to steady the innings, the resistance didn’t last long. The lower order offered little fight as the innings wrapped up before tea.
Score Summary – 1st Innings Highlights
- West Indies 1st Innings: 162 all out (43.1 overs)

India are yet to bat and will begin their reply on Day 2 with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and captain Shubman Gill eager to make the most of home conditions.
The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium had some grass early on but is already showing signs of flattening out. If India’s top order can see off the new ball, big runs are on the cards. With the visitors already under pressure, Day 2 could well decide the course of the series opener.
