Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially announced its 15-member Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against India in November 2025. The major highlight of the announcement is the return of captain Temba Bavuma, who missed the Pakistan series earlier this year due to a calf injury.
Bavuma Returns to Lead a Strong Squad
Bavuma’s comeback marks a big boost for South Africa as they prepare to take on India in challenging subcontinent conditions. Under his leadership, South Africa recently won the ICC World Test Championship 2025, defeating Australia in the final. The Proteas will look to continue that winning momentum on Indian soil.
The squad features several senior players including Aiden Markram, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Marco Jansen. Young stars like Dewald Brevis and Tony de Zorzi have also retained their places, while spinner Simon Harmer strengthens the spin department alongside Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy.

India vs South Africa Test Series Schedule (November 2025)
- 1st Test: November 14–18, Eden Gardens, Kolkata
- 2nd Test: November 22–26, Assam Cricket Association Stadium, Guwahati
Historic Challenge Awaits South Africa
This will be South Africa’s 8th Test tour of India, but the Proteas haven’t won a Test series here in 26 years. The last and only time they lifted a Test series trophy in India was back in 1999. Since then, India has dominated, winning four home series, while two ended in draws.
With Bavuma’s return, Rabada’s pace, and Maharaj’s spin prowess, South Africa will aim to rewrite history. Meanwhile, for India, led by Shubman Gill, this series will be another chance to continue their impressive home record after a 2-0 clean sweep over West Indies earlier this year.
