IND vs AUS: The Indian calendar of 2024 will end with probably the biggest series in terms of broadcasters. India will tour Australia for a five-match test series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is all set to start on November 15 in Perth. This series will be important for both sides because they are looking to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship 2024-25.
India are on the verge of suffering humiliation at home as they have lost the first two tests against New Zealand. Now, the upcoming BGT 2024-25 is their last chance to qualify for the WTC final. That’s why the Indian selection committee announced a strong squad for the Australian tour. It has seen some new faces getting rewarded for their consistent domestic performances while some big names got dropped.
IND vs AUS: End of Road for Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara
India have won the last two BGT series in Australia, and they are on the verge of becoming the first team to beat Australia in Australia in three consecutive times. Rohit Sharma has the opportunity to write his name in history and become one of the few captains to win a test series in Australia. Jasprit Bumrah will be his deputy.
Abhimanyu Easwaran, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Harshit Rana are the three new faces in the squad, while Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna also make the cut. But some big names faced the axe. Veteran batting duo Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, who played a crucial role in India’s last two BGT series wins in Australia, have not been considered.

IND vs AUS: Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel axed from the squad for Australia tour
Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been recovering from injury, was also not picked. Shami is in the NCA and bowling at the nets. But he has yet to get the green signal, which is why he has not been picked. Though in a recent interview, Shami revealed that he was 100 percent fit and will feature in a couple of Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal. But he wasn’t considered, which will be a big setback for India.
Apart from him, Kuldeep Yadav is another notable name who will miss the upcoming series. The wrist spinner played the first test against New Zealand in Bengaluru but was dropped from the second game after a poor show in the first game. But fans were expecting him to be part of the Indian squad. But he has been dropped. It has been clear that he is not dropped because of his form, but he is suffering from a chronic left groin issue, which is the reason that he is not part of the squad for the IND vs AUS test series.
Star all-rounder Axar Patel not getting selected was also a big surprise. But it has to do with Washington Sundar’s performance in the second test against New Zealand. Sundar took 11 wickets, which has given him the edge over Axar. And with Jadeja also available, India have chosen these two all-rounders over Axar for the BGT 2024-25.
