The glory of cricket has once again knocked on the doors of the Olympics, marking its return after a 128-year hiatus. Cricket is officially set to make an anticipated comeback in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA in 2028.
The prolonged wait spanning almost 13 decades comes to an end as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the final dates for men’s and women’s T20 clashes. The power-packed cricket matches will go on the floor in the Summer Olympics on July 12, 2028, with a tight schedule for two weeks, featuring six teams in each category till July 29.Â
It dates back to 1900 when a cricket match debuted in the Olympics in Paris, where Great Britain won over France to deserve gold in the one-off clash. Following a string of discussions and consultations, cricket will be featured for the second time in T20 format, while Flag football is also inclusive.
Each country will be permitted to play in the Olympics in Los Angeles with a 15-member squad. Located approximately 50 km from Los Angeles, the Pomona Fairplex has been chosen for all matches to go live from.
Olympic 2028 – Cricket Match Format DetailsÂ
According to a report, a total of six teams will participate to feature in T20I matches at Pomona Fairplex, serving as the venue. The 1st set will run from July 12 to July 18, followed by a medal match on July 19. In continuation, the second set will begin on July 22, taking place till July 28 with a medal match scheduled for July 29. As per the Indian Standard Time (IST), the time slot for the T20 matches has been booked to take place at 7 AM IST and 9:30 PM IST.
