Sanjog Gupta, who brings over two decades of experience in sports with exposure to global media and entertainment, is a newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC). According to the sources, the Nominations Committee revealed the name of Sanjog unanimously on July 7 (Monday).
In his previous position, Sanjog served as the CEO – Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar. In his next stint, he will join as the ICC’s seventh CEO. He is reportedly set to take over as the new ICC’s CEO with immediate effect. Prior to him, Geoff Allardice was a name for this role, but he had resigned following a stint lasting four years.
Jay Shah, ICC Chairman, praised Sanjog as the new CEO with excitement to work with him. “Sanjog brings extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialisation, which will be invaluable for the ICC”. Shah highlighted. Shah is optimistic about the future of cricket going in the right hands while his deep knowledge of international sports would fill the gaps while eying the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics with farsightedness. He also expressed his willingness for cricket to transcend the boundaries of traditions so that cricket continues to grow in every corner of the world.
“I look forward to contributing to the next phase of cricket’s evolution, expanding its global footprint, enhancing the fan experience, and working closely with ICC Member Boards to build on our strong foundations.” Sanjog Said.
Sanjog started his career in the role of a journalist, leading to his next stint with Star India (JioStar) in 2010. In the course of time, he led several teams across departments – content, strategy, and programming. In 2020, he joined Disney and Star India as Head of Sports, where he enlarged the Sports segment with a focus on women-oriented coverage and multi-language.
