Who doesn’t want to see India and Pakistan fight in the Semifinal of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023?
Team Blue has already become the first team to qualify for the semis and South Africa is the second semifinalist team. Now remaining six will battle for the semifinal ticket.
Currently, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan all have eight points in the ICC World Cup points table. Pakistan is right behind New Zealand in the run rate margin.
New Zealand’s NRR (Net Run Rate) is +0.398 with 8 points. On the other hand, Pakistan has +0.036 NRR also with 8 points position in the 5th position in the ICC ranking table.
Pakistan almost lost its hope for the 2023 World Cup Semifinal ticket, until their prayers were received by the Almighty. Pakistani team won their last match against New Zealand by 22 runs (DLS method).
So let’s see what are the odds for Pakistan to get a semifinal ticket.
- First Pakistan has to win its remaining ODI with England on 9th November with a higher margin. If New Zealand lost its upcoming match with Sri Lanka by a bigger margin and Afghanistan lost one of the two remaining matches. This will increase Pakistan’s chances in the semis.
- Second, Australia lost its remaining two matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh, which will be uncanny if happens. Then Pakistan can get into the 2023 World Cup Semifinal.
- If Afghanistan and New Zealand lost one match with a bigger margin, even if Pakistan lost their match against England there is still a chance for Pakistan to enter the Semifinal of the World Cup.
So many factors are affecting Pakistan’s semifinal chance in the World Cup 2023. But with every World Cup ODI match result, Pakistan’s semifinal chance is once again getting stronger.
Pakistan vs England 44th ODI is scheduled for 11 November at 2 p.m.
Pakistan is right behind New Zealand in the World Cup points table with +0.036 NRR. New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan all three have 8 points. Pakistan has to win its next match against already-eliminated England on Saturday with a bigger margin. Or if New Zealand and Afghanistan lost one of their match by a big margin, Pakistan could lead in the points table with NRR and will get a ticket to the semifinal.
