India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is finally ready to return to action after recovering from the injury he suffered during the Asia Cup 2025. Ahead of the five-match T20I series against South Africa starting 9 December, a big update has emerged – Hardik is now fully fit, has cleared all fitness tests, and has even joined the Baroda team for match preparation.
This comeback is significant for India as the team looks to strengthen its balance before the long season ahead.
Hardik Completes Rehab, Declared Fully Fit
According to reports, Hardik Pandya spent 21 October to 30 November at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, completing his rehab and “return to play” protocols without missing a single day.
Medical staff have now cleared him for both batting and bowling in T20Is, meaning he will be available as a full all-rounder something India badly missed in the last few months.
Planned Matches Before SA T20Is
Hardik has already joined the Baroda domestic squad and will play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to get match practice before the South Africa T20 series.
Hardik Pandya’s Expected Match Schedule Before T20Is
| Date | Match | Tournament | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 December 2025 | Baroda vs Punjab | SMA Trophy | Expected to Play |
| 4 December 2025 | Baroda vs Gujarat | SMA Trophy | Confirmed to Play |
| 6 December 2025 | Baroda vs Haryana | SMA Trophy | Will play if not called early by Team India |
Selectors, including newly appointed member Pragyan Ojha, will monitor Hardik closely during these matches.
How Hardik Got Injured
Hardik suffered a quad injury during India’s Super-4 match vs Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025.
He bowled early in the innings and even took a wicket but walked off after discomfort.
The injury forced him out of the Asia Cup and the South Africa Test and ODI series.
Since then, he has been working continuously at the CoE on strength, mobility, and bowling workload management.
South Africa T20 Series Starts on 9 December
India and South Africa are currently playing a three-match ODI series, after which the five-match T20I series begins on 9 December 2025.
Hardik Pandya is almost certain to feature in the squad if he passes the final fitness observation by selectors after the SMA Trophy games. This series will be crucial for Hardik, as India looks to rebuild its core T20 group before the T20 World Cup 2026.
Shubman Gill Also Close to Full Fitness
Along with Hardik, opener Shubman Gill is also undergoing final fitness assessments at the CoE. Gill suffered a neck injury during the Kolkata Test and missed the ODI series. If he clears his fitness tests, he too is expected to return for the T20Is.
With Hardik Pandya fully fit and ready to return, India is set to regain an important match-winner just in time for a major T20 series. His performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali matches will not only confirm his readiness but also shape India’s selection strategy for the South Africa series beginning 9 December.
