Mumbai Indian’s last match with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) marked the final nail to the coffin after getting defeated with 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on May 17. This also leads Mumbai Indians crashing to last in the IPL points table.
Mumbai Indians, which won 5 IPL titles, had the worst IPL 2024 season under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, replacing Rohit Sharma as captain. The team won just 4 matches out of 10 and was the record new-low in the history of the franchise.
Hardik Leveling up with Rohit Sharma under Unwanted Record
Pandya, who led the Gujarat Titans team as a captain, failed to give good results to Mumbai Indians after getting selected as the new captain for the IPL 2024 season. This season’s loss leveled their last worst game in 2022, when they lost 10 games out of 14 matches. This was under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

Adding to this worst scenario, Hardik Pandya has been banned from playing the next match, which is the IPL 2025 season’s first match along with a penalty of Rs 30 lakh for the slow over-rate. This was the third such offence by the team.
The team’s head coach, Mark Boucher, also admits that Hardik Pandya’s failure as captain raises questions about decisions. Mumbai Indians handing over the captaincy role to Pandya angered fans, who made hateful comments about him.
“I think that if (Hardik) was here, he’d also be disappointed in his performances (in the season). From a captain’s perspective, I thought he had some good games. There’s a lot of stuff going on around him that maybe clouded his thoughts now and again, which I said is tough for him as a leader as well,” said Boucher.
