Last year’s runners-up, the Gujrat Titans, revealed their IPL 2024 official match jersey. The team took to their X (former Twitter) handle to flaunt their jersey. GT will take on the Mumbai Indians in their opening match of the league at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 24.
A few months ago, GT made a huge leadership change, trading captain Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians and promoting Shubman Gill to the role of skipper. Pandya, the first captain of the franchise, enjoyed a successful tenure, guiding them to the title in 2022 and finishing runners-up against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings.
This decision will be a golden opportunity for the young Shubman to flaunt his captaincy skills, which could lead him to be considered a future captain for the national team. Gill has never assumed any leadership roles for any franchise in the IPL, but he has led sides on a few occasions in the domestic circuit. Apart from that, he has been the vice captain of the under-19 team at the 2018 World Cup, which they won under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw. That was the tournament where Gill announced himself to have scored 372 runs in five innings.

It will be interesting to see how he manages the team and also fills in the void left by Pandya, as he also leaves a gap in the all-round capabilities of the team. GT did dip into the mini-auction to rope in Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai and Australia’s Spencer Johnson as potential replacements.
The Titans look to have a very significant batting lineup with the likes of Gill, Kane Williamson, David Miller, and Sai Sudharsan. They are also supported by promising domestic players like Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, Shahrukh Khan, and Wriddhiman Saha.
In the bowling department, they face a substantial loss with the absence of Mohammad Shami. He was impressive in the last two seasons, scoring 48 wickets and being instrumental in Titan’s success. His gap will undoubtedly be challenging to fill.
