Women’s cricket has gained traction over the years, engaging fans who also enjoy the game, bringing almost equal ecstasy as Men’s cricket produces. In a big move, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has extended its ties, reaching out to the tech giant Google with a confirmed partnership to raise the status of women’s cricket.
During the event, creating buzz on the internet, ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta, Vice President of Marketing at Google India, Shekar Khosla and India cricketer Mithali Raj were present. “This partnership with Google is a landmark moment for women’s cricket and underlines our commitment to taking the women’s game to even greater heights,” Jay Shah (ICC Chairman) said.
Why Did ICC Partner with Google?
The purpose of teaming up with Google is to harness Google’s core strength in technology to stay focused on enhancing women’s games, making them more accessible and engaging. The timing of this innovation-focused collaboration arrives when the next level of women’s matches awaits massive international events that will go underway in the next year. The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, followed by the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be played in England and Wales.
The top Google products–AI-powered Google Gemini, Google Pixel, and Google Pay will be leveraged as the network of technologies to attract fans who want more game-changing moments, updates about key players and in-depth stories. This expansion plan covers all stages of the fan watching a cricket match, including highlights and celebrations. Benefiting the upcoming generations, they will be able to connect with cricket with a growth in global footprint.
“Cricket has always been about community and shared passion. We are proud to partner with the ICC to bring fans of women’s cricket closer to the game through our technology.” Shekar Khosla said.
Joining hands will lay out the road map for skyrocketing development and accessibility of women’s matches. There is a broad vision associated with the alliance between Google and ICC, extending beyond one tournament for Women’s cricket. The fans are set to enjoy deeper insights with more visibility and flawless connection that seems more personal.
