Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed his All-Time ODI XI, and his choices have created quite a buzz among cricket fans. The list includes some of the biggest names in the history of one-day cricket, but what grabbed attention most was the absence of any England player and the inclusion of six Indian cricketers.
Six Indian Players Dominate Maxwell’s Dream XI
Maxwell, speaking on Fox Cricket’s YouTube channel, selected his all-time ODI team featuring players from India, Australia, and England. While the Australian star was allowed to pick only five players from his own country, he surprised everyone by giving the majority of the slots to Indian legends.
His team featured Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, and Anil Kumble, showing his admiration for India’s long-standing dominance in ODI cricket.
Initially, Maxwell’s team didn’t include Sachin Tendulkar, which shocked fans worldwide. He had originally chosen Rohit Sharma and David Warner as openers, explaining that he wanted a right-left combination.
However, when reminded that he could pick only five Australian players, Maxwell quickly corrected his team — replacing Warner with Sachin.
He admitted with a smile,
“I might have to drop Davey. Sachin’s got three times the runs Warner has. That’s an easy choice.”
Indeed, Sachin’s record of 18,426 runs and 49 centuries in ODIs remains unmatched even decades after his retirement.
At number three, Maxwell picked Virat Kohli, calling him a modern-day run machine. The middle order featured two Australian greats — Ricky Ponting at No.4 and Michael Bevan at No.5 — known for their consistency and match-winning ability.
Maxwell named MS Dhoni as his wicketkeeper and leader, praising his calmness and leadership. For the all-rounder slot, he went with Shane Watson, saying that Watson’s balance between batting and bowling gave Australia a strong edge in ODIs for years.
Maxwell’s bowling lineup was both fiery and balanced. The pace attack featured Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, and Jasprit Bumrah, while legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble took the lone spin slot.
Together, this combination gave Maxwell’s XI both swing and spin strength — a setup that could challenge any team in history.
One of the biggest talking points was the complete absence of England cricketers. Big names like Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Joe Root, and Eoin Morgan were all left out. Maxwell didn’t explain his reasoning in detail but made it clear he was choosing players who had dominated across eras.
