IND vs SA T20I: The three-match Test series between India and New Zealand is currently underway. It will be followed by a four-match T20I series in South Africa. It will be a much-awaited T20I series between two teams who faced each other in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
South Africa must have some grudges about losing the final, while India will look to continue their winning streak in the shorter format. On Friday, October 25, the Indian selection committee announced a 15-member squad for the IND vs SA T20I series. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team, but the announced squad has a few changes from the last T20I series that India played against Bangladesh.
There are some notable omissions, while some new faces have joined the squad. Notably, some of India’s key players will be part of the India A squad for a few games in Australia, while players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and others who will feature in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 have been rested from the IND vs SA T20Is.
Why Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag and Mayank Yadav dropped from IND vs SA T20I Series
The T20I series in South Africa will start on November 8 with the first game in Durban. The next three matches will take place on November 10, 13, and 15, respectively. The ongoing Test series against New Zealand will conclude on November 5, while the BGT 2024-25 will begin on November 22. Hence, India have picked players on the basis of availability.
However, India have not picked T20I specialists Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag, and Mayank Yadav from the T20I series. Fans are wondering because Parag and Mayank played in the Bangladesh T20Is. But this was a forced decision, as these players are going through injuries and are currently in rehab. Dube missed the Bangladesh T20Is due to injury and is still not fit.
Parag has been sidelined due to a chronic injury to his right shoulder, and Mayank also sustained an injury. The BCCI confirmed in a statement, “Mayank Yadav and Shivam Dube were unavailable for selection owing to injuries. Riyan Parag was unavailable for selection and is currently at the BCCI Centre of Excellence for long-term resolution of his chronic right shoulder injury.”
IND vs SA: Opportunities to new faces
The Indian management has always focused on giving chances to new faces, but the injuries to several players have opened up gates for new players. All-rounder Ramandeep Singh, who played for India A in the ongoing ACC Emerging T20 Asia Cup 2024, has received his maiden call.
