Following a five days of Tug of War between England and India in the opening Test match, both teams head to Edgbaston in Birmingham. The second Test match begins on July 2 with the fifth day of the game to be played on July 6.
England immersed in a wave of celebration after winning the first Test match with English opener Ben Duckett changing the route towards victory. Duckett claimed the award for becoming ‘Player of the Match’ for his stellar 149-run knock in the fourth innings. As England move to the second Test, the major hurdles lie in restricting runs, inviting pacers to showcase what they have on the cards to upset the Indian batters, sustaining momentum, even in the overseas conditions. However, Ben Stokes-led England will miss their star pacer Jofra Archer, who has exited from the squad for the next Test match due to family emergency. In his absence, England have to cope with existing bowlers with a revised plan.
The end of respite comes after losing the first Test against England despite India seeing five centurions. India aim to bounce back given the fact that star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable, citing workload management concerns. Historically, Indian Test team has had magical comebacks for the rest of the series after losing the inaugural match. With a balanced and in form squad, skipper Shubman Gill will be back with a clear plan of action blended with dynamic strategies. India may play with an extra spinner in form of Kuldeep Yadav or young Test players including likes of Arshdeep Singh or Akash Deep who may get into the team to make much needed recovery.
