Indian speedster Harshit Rana has moved to the captaincy stint in his domestic cricketing career as he is all set to lead North Delhi Strikers in the upcoming Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 season. The second edition of this tournament is scheduled to begin on August 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.
Rana, who had a stunning season with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025, was recently featured in the Test squad for the England series. He is taking over the captaincy from Pranshu Vijayran despite staying outside the playing XI in the last season. His appointment comes shortly after the DPL 2025 auction held on July 6, with the franchise banking on his leadership and bowling firepower to steer them beyond last season’s semi-final exit.

DPL 2025 to Feature Eight Teams, Bigger Format
The DPL 2025 is coming back with expansion from six to eight teams, revealing more excitement around the one-month-long tournament. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced that the 2025 edition will see eight men’s teams competing in a format resembling IPL, with matches scheduled from August 2 to August 31 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
DPL 2025 Teams:
Group A: Outer Delhi Warriors, Central Delhi Kings, New Delhi Tigers, North Delhi Strikers
Group B: West Delhi Lions, East Delhi Riders, South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Dilli 6
Every team will get 10 league games following the double round-robin format with home and away matches and a single round-robin is also part of the tournament. The best four teams will progress to the playoffs, resonating the format IPL sticks to with Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and Final.
Adding to the excitement, the women’s division will also return, running from August 17 to August 24, and featuring four teams.
In 2024, East Delhi Riders claimed the title following a victory over South Delhi Superstarz in the final. With stars like Rishabh Pant and Harshit Rana expected to be available this season, the competition is poised to attract massive interest and deliver high-octane cricket.
With new captaincy duties, North Delhi Strikers are armed with a new leader and a renewed sense of purpose. He will look to go all the way this year. All eyes will be on Harshit Rana as he aims to make an impact not just with the ball, but also as a captain.
All Eyes on Star Duo
The potential participation of Rishabh Pant and Harshit Rana brings national-level excitement to this city-based league. As local rivalries intensify and Delhi’s best young talents battle it out under the lights, DPL 2025 is set to offer a month of explosive T20 action.
Stay tuned for match schedules, squad announcements, and live updates as Delhi gears up for its biggest domestic cricket festival yet.
