Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has shown confidence in the Skipper Rishabh Pant‘s comeback in the IPL 2024.
In the latest interview with CricketWorld on the latest appointment as the head coach of Washington Freedom in the Major League Cricket (MCL) Ricky Ponting said, that Rishabh Pant is “very confident” as a full player in the season but not so sure about his captaincy.
When he was asked about Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant, the coach Ponting said,
“He’s such a dynamic player. He’s obviously our captain. We missed him incredibly last year. If you understand the journey he’s been on the last 12-13 months, it was a horrific incident. One that I know he feels very lucky to have even survived, let alone have the chance to play cricket again,” remembering the past horrible events.
Ponting continued,
“We’ll just keep our fingers crossed and hope that he can be out there and play. Even if it’s not all the games, if we can manage him through 10 of the 14 games or whatever that might be then whatever games you can get out of him will be a bonus.”
Per Star Sports interview with Rishabh Pant, the No. 4 batter talked about his car crash in August 2023 and looked confident about his recovery.
Many discouraged Rishabh after his accident but he assessed,
“It doesn’t matter who believes in you, but if you have self-belief. Then you can achieve anything”
The DC head coach also has a backup plan just in case anything goes wrong regarding Pant, David Warner will be Delhi’s captain again for the upcoming IPL 2024.
