The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 final delivered an unforgettable cricketing spectacle as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) by three wickets to claim their fifth CPL title. With this victory, TKR has further cemented its place as the most successful team in CPL history. The match, held at Providence Stadium on September 21, saw remarkable performances from both teams, but TKR resilience and star players ultimately stole the show.
Guyana Amazon Warriors Struggle to Post a Competitive Total
Winning the toss, Guyana Amazon Warriors opted to bat first but struggled to build partnerships against disciplined bowling from TKR. In their 20 overs, GAW managed only 130/8. Pakistan Iftikhar Ahmed top-scored with 30 runs off 27 balls, while Dwaine Pretorius contributed 25 off 18 deliveries, and Ben McDermott added 28 in the opening phase.
Early wickets put pressure on the Warriors, as they lost five wickets for just 65 runs, leaving them vulnerable. Despite a brief sixth-wicket partnership of 43 runs between Iftikhar Ahmed and Pretorius, TKR bowlers, led by Saurabh Netravalkar, ensured the total remained below par. Netravalkar picked up 3 crucial wickets, giving TKR a solid advantage going into the chase.
Trinbago Knight Riders Chase with Confidence
Chasing a modest target of 131, TKR started shakily, losing Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran early for just 34 runs. However, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine steadied the innings with aggressive batting, scoring quickly and keeping the required run rate manageable. Alex Hales added 26, Munro 23, Narine 22, Pollard 21, and Akil Hussain finished unbeaten with 16 off just 7 balls, guiding TKR to victory in 18 overs with three wickets in hand.
Kieron Pollard Breaks World Record
The CPL final also witnessed a historic achievement as Kieron Pollard became the first player in T20 cricket history to take 400 or more catches. Pollard caught four wickets in the final, bringing his total tally to 401 in T20s worldwide. His fielding prowess added another dimension to TKR dominance throughout the tournament.

Akil Hussain Shines as Player of the Match
All-rounder Akil Hussain played a key role in TKR victory, earning the Player of the Match award. Hussain contribution of 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs, followed by a quick 16 runs off 7 balls, proved decisive in a tightly contested finish.
TKR Fifth CPL Title and Place in History
With this win, Trinbago Knight Riders have now lifted the CPL trophy five times: 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2025. No other team in CPL history has achieved such consistent success. This triumph places TKR alongside legendary T20 teams like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in IPL and Perth Scorchers in BBL, who have also won five or more titles in their respective leagues.
Despite reaching the final for the eighth time, Guyana Amazon Warriors have now lost seven CPL finals, continuing a disappointing streak. While they have been consistent performers throughout the league history, they have managed to win the trophy only once, highlighting the cruel nature of cricket finals.
Trinbago Knight Riders’ CPL 2025 victory will be remembered for the thrilling chase, record-breaking moments by Kieron Pollard, and consistent team effort. The team balanced combination of experienced players and dynamic performers has once again proven why TKR is a T20 powerhouse, setting high standards for upcoming CPL seasons.
