Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) new skipper Pat Cummins has finally arrived in Hyderabad city to join the squad ahead of IPL 2024. Cummins has been appointed as the captain of SRH in IPL 2024, replacing Aiden Markram. He is the second-most expensive IPL buy after the franchise acquired his services for ₹20.50 Crore. This also marks the beginning of a new era for SRH who have been looking for a title after emerging as champions in IPL 2016.
SRH didn’t have a great outing in the last three IPL seasons where they finished in the 8th position in 2021 and 2022 respectively and finished 10th in IPL 2023. Now they have built a strong squad for IPL 2024 by taking World Cup winners Pat Cummins and Travis Head in the squad. In a video shared by SRH on their social media, Cummins revealed that he is ready and pumped to join SRH in the upcoming IPL season.
“I’m ready, I’m pumped. Yeah, let’s go and do it. I’m excited. Great to be here. Can’t wait to get the season started. I know a few of the boys but few of the guys I haven’t met yet. Can’t wait to get stuck in,’ Cummins said in a video
Notably, Pat Cummins had a tremendous year as an Australian skipper in 2023. Under his captaincy, Australia clinched the World Test Championship and retained the Ashes against England. In addition, his biggest achievement as the skipper came when he led Australia to their sixth ODI World Cup title in 2023 after the hosts India in the final.
The SRH team will be looking to use Cummins’ luck to win their IPL trophy in the upcoming season. He has replaced Aiden Markram, who led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back titles in South Africa T20 League in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
