Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar rolled back the years with a sensational spell in the UP T20 League Qualifier 2, taking a stunning three wickets including a magical double-wicket maiden. Despite his brilliance, Meerut Mavericks held their nerve and defeated Lucknow Falcons by 19 runs to book their place in the final.
Electing to bowl first at the Ekana Stadium, Falcons captain Bhuvneshwar led from the front. He started with a dream over, swinging the new ball both ways and picking up two wickets without conceding a run.
- First strike: Akshay Dubey edged to Aaradhya Yadav for a duck.
- Second strike: Rituraj Sharma was cleaned up by an inswinging beauty, leaving Mavericks at 0/2.
Bhuvneshwar finished with figures of 4-1-26-3, including the crucial wicket of Ritik Vats in the death overs. His spell was a perfect blend of swing, control, and experience — reminding fans of his glory days in Indian colors.
“These three wickets were very important, and I just wanted to give my team the best start possible. Unfortunately, we couldn’t cross the line today,” Bhuvneshwar said after the match.
Despite being reduced to 0/2, Divyansh Rajput played a match-defining knock of 67 off 45 balls with two fours and five sixes. His attacking intent shifted the momentum back to Mavericks’ favor. Along with Prashant Chaudhary (30 off 34), he guided the side to a fighting total of 143/8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 144, Lucknow Falcons started well thanks to a quickfire cameo from Abhay Singh (22 off 10) and a steady fifty from Aaradhya Yadav (54 off 50). However, disciplined bowling from Kartik Tyagi (3/29) and Vijay Kumar (2/17) triggered a middle-order collapse.
Falcons could manage only 124/8 in 20 overs, falling short by 19 runs. Bhuvneshwar remained unbeaten on 4 runs but could not prevent his team’s exit from the tournament.
