Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has finally broken his silence on retirement rumours and continuous snub from Team India selection. The 35-year-old, currently leading Lucknow Falcons in the UP T20 League 2025, made it clear that he has no plans of hanging up his boots anytime soon and is fully focused on performing well in domestic and franchise cricket.
“Haven’t Thought About Retirement Yet” – Bhuvneshwar
In a candid interview, Bhuvneshwar said:
“I am enjoying my bowling. I haven’t thought about retirement yet. As long as I am fit, I will keep playing, the rest is the job of the selectors.”
This statement comes as a relief to fans who have been speculating about his future ever since he last played for India back in 2022. Bhuvneshwar emphasized that his job is to give 100% on the field, whether in domestic tournaments like the UP T20 League, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, or the Ranji Trophy.
Bhuvneshwar, known as India’s “Sultan of Swing,” also spoke about the importance of consistent performances:
“Your performance is what matters. If someone is playing good cricket, they cannot be ignored for long. My focus remains on doing my best whenever I get an opportunity. Selection is not in my control, but effort is.”
Despite being away from international cricket, he continues to remain one of the most skillful bowlers in India’s domestic circuit, with his ability to swing the ball both ways and maintain tight lines.
Even though he hasn’t worn the India jersey in three years, Bhuvneshwar’s recent numbers prove he is far from done:
- UP T20 League 2025: 9 wickets in 8 matches with an economy rate under 7
- IPL 2025 (RCB): 17 wickets in 14 matches, helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru lift their maiden IPL title
These performances underline that the veteran pacer still has the skills to deliver in high-pressure games against world-class opposition.
