The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set for a major leadership shake-up as the board will elect its new president and office-bearers at the 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28, 2025, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
Devajit Saikia’s Big Confirmation
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will strictly follow the constitutional timeline for the AGM:
“Very soon, there will be a notice coming out regarding the next course of action. The AGM is due before September 30, and there will be no deviation. We’ll have our AGM before September 30, and the notice regarding the exact date, time, and venue will be issued shortly,” Saikia told ANI.
Key Positions Up for Election
During the AGM, polls will be conducted for multiple posts, including:
- President
- Vice-President
- Secretary
- Joint Secretary
- Treasurer
- Two members of the IPL Governing Council
- One representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association
- Committees such as the Women’s Premier League Committee, Standing Committee, Cricket Committee, and Umpires’ Committee will also be reconstituted.
Rajeev Shukla Likely Front-Runner
Current vice-president Rajeev Shukla is widely seen as the front-runner for the president’s post. Sources suggest he could either:
- Continue as Vice-President,
- Be promoted as BCCI President, or
- Take charge as IPL Chairman.
For now, Shukla is expected to take interim charge until the elections are held. Speaking earlier, he played down speculation about a full-time promotion:
“When one spot is about to get vacant, the person next in line gets the interim charge before the election. It is just a procedural thing,” Shukla had clarified.
The upcoming AGM is crucial as it will set the tone for the next three years of Indian cricket administration. The next president will oversee major events, including:
- ICC Champions Trophy 2029 preparations
- Expansion of the Women’s Premier League (WPL)
- New broadcast cycle negotiations
- Continued efforts to globalize Indian cricket and strengthen domestic structure
