The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to host its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. This year’s meeting carries special significance as the board will elect a new president and finalize key appointments across selection committees.
The post of BCCI President fell vacant after Roger Binny completed his term. As per the BCCI constitution, no official above the age of 70 can continue, and Binny reached the age cap earlier this year. Binny had been elected in October 2022, and his exit has opened the door for a new face at the top.
Before the official AGM, an important meeting is scheduled for September 20, 2025, at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. While this meeting is expected to build consensus around the next president, the final announcement will come only during the AGM.
Contenders for BCCI President 2025
Several former cricketers and administrators are in the race for the top job:
- Sourav Ganguly – Former BCCI President and Indian captain, who may stage a comeback.
- Harbhajan Singh – Former India spinner, now actively involved in cricket administration and politics.
- Raghuram Bhat – Former Test cricketer with strong domestic cricket credentials.
- Kiran More – Ex-India wicketkeeper and experienced administrator.
The decision will likely depend on consensus among the key power blocs within the board.
Apart from the presidential election, the AGM will also finalize:
- New National Selectors: Seven positions are up for grabs — 2 in the men’s panel, 4 in the women’s, and 1 in the junior committee. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is currently conducting interviews.
- Committee Updates: Review of ongoing domestic reforms, women’s cricket structure, and junior cricket programs.
Since its inception in 1928, BCCI has seen several stalwarts at the helm, including Sharad Pawar, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Shashank Manohar, N. Srinivasan, Anurag Thakur, Sourav Ganguly, and Roger Binny. This legacy adds weight to the upcoming election, as the new president will step into a role that shapes the future of Indian cricket.
With Indian cricket riding high on the back of Asia Cup 2025 and preparations underway for the Champions Trophy 2025 and ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the choice of the next BCCI president will be crucial. All eyes will be on September 28 in Mumbai, when the board officially crowns its new leader.
