Veteran Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary has officially retired from all BCCI and international umpiring duties, closing a distinguished chapter of his career that spanned 17 IPL seasons and over 483 matches across formats. The 60-year-old made the announcement ahead of IPL 2025, revealing he will now step into a new role as a commentator and mentor in the world of cricket.
Chaudhary, a familiar face in Indian cricket since 2008, has already started his commentary stint and will be heard on the Haryanvi and Hindi feeds during IPL 2025, which begins on March 22 with the season opener between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
Farewell Game & Career Highlights
Anil Chaudhary’s farewell match as an umpire was the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 final between Kerala and Vidarbha held in Nagpur. His last international assignment was in September 2023, during the India vs Australia ODI in Rajkot — the same venue where he made his international debut back in 2013.
