While the world is enjoying franchise cricket through the lens of the Indian Premier League, an action-packed summer is awaiting. Cricket Australia announced their home summer schedule, promising a thrilling season of cricket matches. From the intense Border-Gavaskar trophy to women’s ashes, it would be a treat for cricket lovers.
The Australian summer begins with Pakistan visiting them for two series of white-ball cricket. It is scheduled to commence in November. The main highlight undoubtedly lies in the series against India. It will begin on November 22 in Perth, with all five intense test matches in the series. Further tests are scheduled in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. The series against India is of special significance as, after 1991-1992, it will be the first time that the two cricketing giants will engage in a five-match series.
Nick Hockley, CEO of Australia, expressed great excitement for the upcoming series. “Fittingly, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been put on the same footing as The Ashes with a five-test series for the first time since 1991–92, and we’re confident the schedule will maximise viewership and attendance, and there will be a tremendous atmosphere in stadiums across the country,” he added.
The series will also have a day-night test in Adelaide starting December 6, and ‘Gabba’, once the traditional opening venue of the Test summer, will host the third test on December 14, before the iconic Boxing Day and New Year’s slots for Melbourne and Sydney.
Meanwhile, the Indian women will also join their male counterparts on a tour that runs parallel with the men’s second test, with two ODIs between December 5 and 11. The main course of the Australian women’s season is the multi-format Ashes series, which will see several matches played at major stadiums culminating in a day-night women’s test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The women’s summer begins with New Zealand in the T20 series starting in September.
