#5: 160 Runs vs U.A.E (T20I Asia Cup 2016)
The Afghanistan cricket team played in the qualifying round of the Asia Cup 2016 but failed to qualify for the final phase as they finished 2nd in the qualifying table behind U.A.E. However, their 160 runs vs the table topper is one of their highest scores in Asia Cup T20I format.
Karim Sadiq played an invaluable knock in this match for the Afghanistan team. Chasing 177 runs, Afghanistan had already lost 2 wickets for 9 runs. From there Sadiq scored 72 runs off 48 balls. Afghanistan’s new generation is truly taking over as displayed by their batters in the match against Hong Kong. The 24-years-old Sediqullah Atal was the team’s top scorer in the match as he scored 73 runs off 52 balls and remained unbeaten. Meanwhile, Azmatullah Omarzai scored 53 runs off 21 balls. The veteran batter Mohammad Nabi also contributed with 33 runs as they scored 188. They later restricted Hong Kong for 94 runs and won the match by 94 runs.
