Afghanistan Highest Scores in T20I and ODI Aisa Cup

Afghanistan got off to a flying start in the Asia Cup 2025 as they registered a 94 runs victory over Hong Kong in their opening match of the tournament. Afghanistan cricket team’s rise has been nothing short of spectacular.

Afghanistan played in the Asia Cup for the first time in 2014 and has since, year-on-year they have improved their performance. Fast forward to 2025, they are rated the 2nd favourite after India to win the 2025 Asia Cup. Not only that, they are now being hailed as the 2nd best Asian team after India and ahead of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Rashid Khan led side has already had a positive start to the 2025 edition with a 94 runs victory over Hong Kong. In-fact they scored their highest total in Asia Cup T20I history in that match. #5: 160 Runs vs U.A.E (T20I Asia Cup 2016)

The Afghanistan cricket team played in the qualifying round of the Asia Cup 2016 but failed to qualify for the final phase as they finished 2nd in the qualifying table behind U.A.E. However, their 160 runs vs the table topper is one of their highest scores in Asia Cup T20I format.

Karim Sadiq played an invaluable knock in this match for the Afghanistan team. Chasing 177 runs, Afghanistan had already lost 2 wickets for 9 runs. From there Sadiq scored 72 runs off 48 balls. Mohammad Nabi and Najibullah Zadran scored 23 and 21 runs respectively but other batters failed. As a result, UAE won the match by 16 runs.

#4: 168 Runs vs Oman (T20I Asia Cup 2016)

Afghanistan’s 168 runs vs Oman is ranked fourth in the list. The Asghar Afghan led side successfully chased down the target of 166 runs in this match as part of the qualifying phase for the main tournament. Noor Ali Zadran was the team’s top scorer with 63 runs off 44 balls. Captain Afghan scored 34 runs while Najibullah Zadran scored 23 runs as Afghanistan won the match by 3 wickets in the final over.

#3: 175 Runs vs Sri Lanka (T20I Asia Cup 2022)

Ranked number three in the Afghanistan highest scores in Asia Cup T20I format is their 175 runs vs Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022. By this time Afghanistan had already become a strong team qualifying for the main group stage matches.

It was the match number 7 in Super Four round played in Sharjah. Afghanistan scored 175 runs batting first. It was Rahmanullah Gurbaz who was outstanding on the night as he scored 84 runs off 45 balls. He was well supported by Ibrahim Zadran who scored 40 runs. But despite their valiant effort, Sri Lanka eventually won the match by 4 wickets.

#2: 178 Runs vs Hong Kong (T20I Asia Cup 2016)

The Afghanistan cricket team continued to build their momentum in the 2016 Asia Cup qualifying phase. After delivering 160 and 168 runs in their previous two games, Afghanistan scored 178 runs in their next match against Hong Kong.

Najibullah Zadran and Asghar Afghan were the side’s best batters in the match. The former scored 60 runs off 35 balls while Afghan scored 49 runs off 35 balls. Earlier opening batter Mohammad Shahzad scored 24 runs. All of which helped Afghanistan to post 178 runs. They won the match by 66 runs. But failed to qualify for the main round. 

#1: 188 Runs vs Hong Kong (T20I Asia Cup 2025)

Afghanistan cricket team just improved on their performance from their previous Hong Kong match as they scored 188 runs vs them in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2025. This is as of writing this, is their highest total in an Asia Cup T20I match. 

Afghanistan’s new generation is truly taking over as displayed by their batters in the match against Hong Kong. The 24-years-old Sediqullah Atal was the team’s top scorer in the match as he scored 73 runs off 52 balls and remained unbeaten. Meanwhile, Azmatullah Omarzai scored 53 runs off 21 balls. The veteran batter Mohammad Nabi also contributed with 33 runs as they scored 188. They later restricted Hong Kong for 94 runs and won the match by 94 runs.
