Indian cricket fans have plenty to celebrate as Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana have been crowned the ICC Players of the Month for September 2025 in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Both players delivered outstanding performances, leading India to memorable victories in their recent international assignments.
Abhishek Sharma Shines Bright in the Asia Cup 2025
India’s explosive left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma has been rewarded for his sensational run during the Asia Cup 2025, where he not only emerged as the Player of the Tournament but also played a pivotal role in helping India lift the title after defeating Pakistan in the final.
The 25-year-old smashed 314 runs in seven matches at a blistering strike rate of 200 and an average of 44.85, dominating opposition attacks throughout the tournament. His fearless batting approach at the top of the order was a major factor behind India’s success.
Abhishek beat Kuldeep Yadav and Brian Bennett of Zimbabwe to claim the award. Reacting to the honour, he said,
“Winning this award is a special moment for me. I’m proud that my performance came in matches where I could contribute to India’s victories. This recognition motivates me to keep improving and give my best for the team.”
Following his Asia Cup heroics, Abhishek achieved another milestone by becoming the No. 1 ranked T20I batter in the world with a record 931 rating points, surpassing David Malan’s 2020 record of 919 points.
Smriti Mandhana Dominates in the Women’s Category
In the women’s division, Smriti Mandhana, India’s vice-captain, claimed the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for her exceptional display in the ODI series against Australia.
Mandhana scored 58, 117, and 125 runs in three matches, helping India clinch crucial wins. Her century off just 50 balls was the fastest by an Indian woman in ODIs — a new national record.
Speaking after receiving the award, Mandhana said,
“This recognition will inspire me to keep performing better for my country. My goal is to win matches for India and continue contributing to the team’s success.”
She triumphed over Tazmin Brits (South Africa) and Sidra Ameen (Pakistan) to secure the honour.
Both Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana’s awards underline India’s dominance across formats in 2025. Their consistency, determination, and match-winning contributions have not only earned them global recognition but also brought pride to Indian cricket fans worldwide.
