Tom Latham’s Early Life & Career
The young Tom Latham got his first maiden domestic call from Canterbury in the 2010-11 Plunket Shield season where he scored a solid 65 runs in his inauguration into the first-class arena. He had cut his teeth in the Canterbury youth setup, even leading the under-19 troops, and plied his trade for the Canterbury A team starting 2008-09.

The seasoned Kent secured Latham’s services as an overseas recruit for the 2016 English summer. He marked his County Championship entrance against Glamorgan at Canterbury in May, compiling half-centuries in both innings and etching his name as the first Kent batsman to ever achieve the feat on debut. After featuring in all formats for the county, Latham departed from Kent in mid-July to unite with the New Zealand squad in Zimbabwe.

He embarked on his Twenty20 International career against the West Indies on 30 July, scoring 15 and 19 in the series. Not an impressive debut. Tom Latham also participated in the tour’s ODI series but failed to make substantial contributions, with 32 being his highest score. He found recall against Bangladesh, crafting a bright 43 while opening the batting, and notched a match-winning 86 off 68 balls during the subsequent Sri Lankan sojourn.
He got his maiden test cricket call against India in February 2014, managing scores of 29 and 0. He then toured the West Indies with New Zealand in June, playing all three Tests and two T20s.
In May 2017, Latham earned recall and received the captaincy crown for the Ireland Tri-Series against the hosts and Bangladesh. With several regulars committed to Indian Premier League duties, it proved an opportunity for Latham to lead an inexperienced squad and make a name for himself.
