Ime Udoka Early Life and Career 

Ime Udoka was born in Portland, Oregon on 9th August 1977 to Vitalis Udoka and Agnes Udoka. His father is of Nigerian descent, while his mother, who died in 2011, was an American from Illinois. Udoka was raised in a multicultural household and was exposed to both American and Nigerian cultures. 

Udoka went to Jefferson High School, Portland, and later joined Portland State University, and played intercollegiate Basketball there before completing his graduation in 2000. He went undrafted in the 2000 NBA Draft, however, he was later signed by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2004 as a free agent after playing for lower tier teams since his graduation. However, he didn’t he didn’t get to play a single game for the Lakers and was picked by the New York Knicks in 2005, when he finally made his debut in the league. After two years with Knicks, Udoka moved to Portland Trail Blazers in 2007 for another couple of years before he joined San Antonio Spurs, with whom he finally won his first NBA Championship in 2011. 

After retiring from professional Basketball as a player in 2012, Ime Udoka took up the new role as an Assistant Coach for the Spurs. He was a part of the Spurs till 2019. After that, Udoka joined the Golden State Warriors as coach, followed by the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Brooklyn Nets. 

In 2021, Udoka was appointed as a Head Coach of the Boston Celtics. He is currently part of the Houston Rockets as a Head Coach as he signed a four-year deal of $28.5 million with the club.
