Dell Curry Early Life and Career
Dell Curry was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia on 25th June, 1964 and was raised in Grottoes where he played High School Basketball at Fort Defiance. He was the all-time leading scorer in School history and was named McDonald’s All-American in 1982. Apart from Basketball, Curry also excelled in Baseball at High School and went on to win State Championships in both sports. He was also picked by the Texas Rangers in the1982 Major League Baseball draft.
Dell Curry began his College Basketball career for Virginia Tech in Blacksburg in 1982. There he met Bobby Beecher, Perry Young, Al Young, and Keith Colbert and all were a part of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in 1983 and 1984, where they finished in the third position. Curry had 2,389 points (second all-time) and 295 steals (all-time leader) for Virginia Tech in College Basketball. He was also inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
Curry finally got his break when he was picked as 15th overall draft by the Utah Jazz in the 1986 NBA Draft. After playing one season with the Jazz, he moved to Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of the 1987 season. After a couple of years with the Cavaliers, Curry was the second drafted player by Charlotte Hornets for the NBA for 1988. He later went on to play for Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors in the last few years of his career.
Post retirement, Dell Curry took up the coaching role and was named as a Assistant Coach of Charlotte Bobcats, on 18th June, 2007. However, he stepped down from the role even before the beginning of the season to attend his sons’ Basketball games.
